Nice to Meet You: a hanging garden above Plaza de España
The Dear Hotel's roof, open to everyone
At the very top of the Gran Vía, where the avenue meets Plaza de España, the Dear Hotel has set up its restaurant Nice to Meet You and a rooftop bar on the 14th floor. Hotel guests and passing visitors are welcomed in the same way. The decor, by the Tarruella Trench studio, is inspired by an urban garden, with plants and large terracotta jars.
The view sweeps right around the city: the Royal Palace, Plaza de España and its gardens just below, the long perspective of the Gran Vía, then the green mass of the Casa de Campo to the west, which is what makes the place so appealing at sunset.
Mediterranean cuisine and classic cocktails
The restaurant serves contemporary Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, in the dining room or on the terrace, which is covered by an awning but not heated. At the rooftop bar, the menu stays simple: beers, wines by the glass, long drinks and classic cocktails, all at €14. The setting lends itself to dinners for two as well as drinks with friends, and the restaurant hosts private events.
Practical information
The rooftop bar is open Monday to Thursday and on Sunday from 1pm to midnight, and on Friday and Saturday from 1pm to 1am; its tables cannot be booked, and an entry fee that includes a drink may be charged on busy days. The restaurant can be booked online for Saturday lunch and for dinner, Tuesday to Saturday. Card payment only. The pool is reserved for hotel guests and the roof terrace is not wheelchair accessible. Plaza de España metro (lines 3 and 10) is right outside the door.
