Mama Shelter Lisboa: a summer rooftop between Rato and the Avenida
A roof terrace near the Botanical Garden
Lisbon's Mama Shelter hotel occupies a building on Rua do Vale de Pereiro, a stone's throw from the Botanical Garden and Eduardo VII Park. Its top level has been turned into a rooftop open to hotel guests and visitors alike, set around a large central island bar.
The terrace is fitted out with wooden pergolas, striped awnings, plants and brightly patterned banquettes; a pink table football completes the décor. The view sweeps over the rooftops to the Tagus, and the 25 de Abril Bridge stands out on the horizon at sunset.
Cocktails, small plates and music
The rooftop menu lists house cocktails at €12 or €13, classics such as the mojito, caipirinha or margarita at €11, spritzes at €13 and sangria by the glass. To eat, guests share small plates and house dishes; dinner is served from 5pm.
From Wednesday to Saturday, DJs take to the decks, and the weekend brunch also moves up to the roof. The eighth-floor atelier, with access to the terrace, can be booked for private parties.
Practical information
The rooftop is seasonal: it opens every day from June to the end of October, weather permitting, with the bar from 4pm to 10.30pm and dinner from 5pm to 10pm, then closes for the winter on 31 October. Bookings are only for groups of more than ten people with a set menu agreed in advance: other visitors simply turn up. Entrance through the hotel, at 19 Rua do Vale de Pereiro; Rato metro (yellow line) is a few minutes' walk away.
