South of the De Pijp district, the Hotel Okura Amsterdam is a five-star hotel of Japanese origin. Its top floor brings together two venues: the fine-dining restaurant Ciel Bleu, awarded two Michelin stars, and the Twenty Third Bar, a cocktail and champagne bar open to visitors and hotel guests alike.
There is no terrace here, but large windows frame a panorama over the whole city: the rooftops of De Pijp and south Amsterdam, a few office towers and, beyond, the city stretching to the horizon. Sunset and nightfall are the most popular times, and the seats by the windows go quickly.
Cocktails between Japan and the Netherlands
The bar team makes its own syrups and purées. The signature menu draws on the Okura's Japanese heritage and on Dutch identity: Japanese-style highball, Miso Old Fashioned, Okura Saketini or a reworked Gimlet, alongside forgotten classics brought back up to date. Connoisseurs will also find a fine selection of champagnes, wines and spirits, as well as bites prepared by the Ciel Bleu kitchen.
An elegant address
The setting suits dates for two as well as refined late evenings. Smart dress is required: no shorts, sportswear, flip-flops, ripped jeans, caps or hoodies.
