Terraza Cha Cha Chá: the Monumento a la Revolución opposite

A terrace above the Plaza de la República

The colonia Tabacalera stretches between Reforma and the Centro, around the vast Plaza de la República and its Monumento a la Revolución with its great dome. On Avenida de la República, in an Art Deco building, the Terraza Cha Cha Chá occupies the upper floors: a terrace under a wooden pergola, with banquettes and wooden tables, lined with planters, where the monument seems within arm's reach. The adjoining dining room, colourful, decorated with stained glass and equipped with a lounge for business meals or private parties, extends the space. In the distance, the Torre Latinoamericana and the towers of Reforma take shape.

Mexican food to share

The menu draws on Mexican classics from the sea and the land: guacamole, bone marrow with esquites, tuna timbale, tostadas, aguachiles, shrimp cocktail and tacos to start; fish of the day zarandeado, grilled octopus and shrimp, chamorro, cochinita pibil and beef cuts to follow. A breakfast menu completes the offer.

Tequila and mezcal in the spotlight

At the bar, the house cocktails, around 200 pesos, give pride of place to agave: house margarita, spicy margarita, paloma, cantarito, hibiscus or passion fruit mezcalitas, tequila and mezcal old fashioned. Alcohol-free versions, Mexican beers and a selection of wines complete the list. In the evening, the music and the view of the illuminated monument make it a favourite with groups of friends.

Open Monday to Saturday from 1pm to midnight, Sunday from 10am to 7pm. Booking recommended in the evening and at weekends, online or on +52 55 5705 2272. Allow around 200 pesos per cocktail. The restaurant can be booked privately for events. Revolución metro station (line 2), a few minutes' walk away.
