On the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt Tokyo, in one of the towers of Nishi-Shinjuku, the New York Bar extends the New York Grill beneath tall picture windows opening onto the immensity of the city. Live jazz every evening, a large collection of bourbons and whiskies, classic cocktails and seasonal creations: a legendary bar, known to film lovers since Lost in Translation.

New York Bar: jazz and the lights of Tokyo on the 52nd floor

At the top of the Park Hyatt

The Park Hyatt occupies the upper floors of the Shinjuku Park Tower, in the skyscraper district of Nishi-Shinjuku. Right at the top, on the 52nd floor, the New York Bar shares the space of the New York Grill: a very high ceiling, an exposed metal structure, floor-to-ceiling windows and large colourful murals inspired by New York concert halls. At dusk, the towers of Shinjuku light up one by one and the city stretches as far as the eye can see behind the glass. The venue owes a good part of its fame to the film Lost in Translation, and the menu plays on it with a cocktail called L.I.T., made with sake and sakura liqueur.

Jazz, whiskies and cocktails

Every evening, a jazz band performs on the small stage, with a first instrumental set followed by several more until around midnight. At the bar, the selection of bourbons and whiskies is particularly extensive, alongside a long wine list. The cocktails mix classics (old fashioned, manhattan, martini) and creations renewed every three months, at around ¥2,640, as well as alcohol-free versions. To nibble on: charcuterie, smoked chicken quesadillas, truffle pizza and the homemade cheesecake, not forgetting a few dishes from the New York Grill.

Practical information

Open every day from 5pm to midnight (kitchen until 11pm). No reservations: just turn up. From 6.30pm, a cover charge of ¥3,300 per person applies; the 15% service charge is added to the bill. Tochōmae station (Ōedo line) is an eight-minute walk away, Shinjuku station (south exit) twelve minutes; a free shuttle bus also links the hotel to the west side of Shinjuku station.
