Loggia Roof Bar: aperitivo beneath a Renaissance loggia
A palazzo in the heart of the Oltrarno
Palazzo Guadagni overlooks Piazza Santo Spirito, the centre of the Oltrarno district, popular for its trattorias, antique dealers and artisan workshops. Built in the early 16th century for a silk merchant, it now houses the Hotel Palazzo Guadagni. Its top level is a large colonnaded loggia, open to the city, which has become a bar where you can book a table without staying at the hotel.
Rooftops and hills in your sights
Between the stone columns and the stretched canvas, the eye passes over the square and the façade of Santo Spirito, then runs across the tiled roofs to the domes of the Carmine and the Cestello, with the hills in the background. Late in the day, the low-angled light warms the ochre walls of the loggia and the rattan furniture.
A menu for the whole day
At lunchtime, the menu stays simple: salads, sandwiches, eggs Benedict, burrata or a board of cured meats and cheeses to share. The afternoon lends itself to tea, then comes aperitivo time, with house cocktails and a list of Italian wines built up through meetings with producers. Expect to pay around €16 for a Negroni or a Spritz and €18 for a signature cocktail.
