Set at the top of the Hotel Calimala, a four-star hotel in the historic centre, Angel occupies the fifth floor of a building on Via Calimala, the street linking Piazza della Repubblica to Orsanmichele. The rooftop is spread over several interconnected terraces: a restaurant, two bars, an indoor room and a flower-filled patio. Wisteria-covered pergolas, string lights and white wrought-iron chairs give the place an intimate atmosphere.

A view in the heart of the old town

From the tables, Giotto's Bell Tower and the stone walls of Orsanmichele rise very close by, while the eye travels towards Palazzo Vecchio, the tiled roofs and the hills surrounding Florence. Brunelleschi's Dome, however, remains hidden from view. Aperitivo time, when golden light glides over the façades, is the most sought-after moment.

Italian cuisine and cocktails

The menu reinterprets Italian classics, from antipasti to desserts, adding Mediterranean and international touches; at lunchtime, a lighter menu is offered. At the bar, great classics such as the Negroni, the Spritz and the Old Fashioned sit alongside house creations like the Angel Mule. Expect to pay €16 to €18 per cocktail. The terraces also host weddings, private dinners and corporate events.

Practical information

Lunch is served from noon to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 11pm, with drinks served in the afternoon and, in October, until midnight. From November to February, Angel opens Wednesday to Sunday (closed Monday and Tuesday). Book online, by phone or via WhatsApp, which is advisable for sunset. The entrance is at Via Calimala 2, two minutes' walk from Piazza della Repubblica and five minutes from the Duomo; Santa Maria Novella station is about a quarter of an hour away on foot.
