Cosimo Rooftop: the Arno and the Duomo from Piazza Ognissanti

The new roof of The Excelsior

The Excelsior, a Luxury Collection hotel on the banks of the Arno on Piazza Ognissanti, opened Cosimo on its top floor in September 2025. Designer Martin Brudnizki conceived a glazed winter garden in tones inspired by the Tuscan countryside, surrounded by terraces planted with cypress trees. The space is divided between a restaurant and a bar, both open to non-residents.

A panorama over both banks

On one side, the eye follows the Arno, its bridges and the façades of the Oltrarno up to the hills; on the other, it sweeps over the tiled roofs towards the dome of the Duomo and Giotto's Bell Tower. Sunset is particularly popular here.

Tuscan cuisine and Medici-inspired cocktails

In the kitchen, executive chef Marco Migliorati offers contemporary Tuscan cuisine: homemade pasta, focaccia and bistecca alla fiorentina carved at the table. At the bar, the menu pays tribute to the women of the Medici family, with creations named Contessina, Clarice or Lucrezia, alongside the great classics. Expect to pay €28 per cocktail and €24 for an alcohol-free creation. Small sharing plates are served throughout the day. Special evenings are held over the festive season.

Practical information

The bar is open every day from noon to 1am, all year round; the restaurant serves from noon to 2.30pm and from 7pm to 10.30pm. Smart casual dress is required. Bookings are taken by phone or email and are recommended for sunset. The hotel is less than ten minutes' walk from Santa Maria Novella station: head for Piazza Ognissanti, on the banks of the Arno.
