On the 9th floor of the Königshof, above Karlsplatz, which locals call the Stachus, Greta Oto serves Latin American cuisine with Amazonian touches in a dining room facing the Frauenkirche. In summer, its rooftop terrace opens onto the church towers of the old town and, on clear days, the Alps.

Greta Oto: flavours of the Amazon above the Stachus

A restaurant at the top of the new Königshof

Opposite the Karlstor, the Königshof hotel has been completely rebuilt on the edge of Karlsplatz, one of Munich's busiest squares. Right at the top, on the 9th floor, the Greta Oto restaurant occupies a dining room in warm tones with subdued lighting and large windows looking out over the city centre. The two towers of the Frauenkirche rise directly opposite, above the rooftops of the pedestrian zone. The restaurant, bar and terrace are open to everyone, not just hotel guests.

A summer terrace facing the old town

In the warmer months, the rooftop terrace takes over, with its banquettes, parasols and beds of hydrangeas. The view sweeps over the Stachus towards the Frauenkirche and the tower of the New Town Hall; when the air is crystal clear, the Alps appear on the horizon. This terrace only opens in summer and in fine weather: out of season it stays closed, but the restaurant and bar are open all year round with the same view through the windows.

Ceviche, tacos and pisco

The menu draws on Latin American flavours, reinvented with modern techniques: ceviches, tacos, guacamole, grilled fish and meat, often for sharing. At lunchtime, a “caja bento” set menu brings together salad, ceviche, soup of the day and a main course in a single box. At the bar, cocktails revolve around pisco, mezcal, tequila and Japanese whisky, between €18 and €22; the pisco sour is €18. On Thursdays, a pisco hour is offered early in the evening.

A private table, La Mesa, seats up to 14 guests next to the main dining room.

Practical information

The restaurant is open daily from noon to 2.30pm and from 6pm to 11pm, and the bar from 5pm to midnight; in summer, the terrace serves a sharing menu in the afternoon and evening. Booking online is recommended. Smart dress is required: no flip-flops or sports shorts. Card payment only, no dogs allowed. Getting there: Karlsplatz (Stachus) station, served by the U4 and U5 and by all S-Bahn lines on the central trunk line, right at the foot of the hotel.
