FreiSchwimmer Bar: a poolside feel above Sendlinger Tor

A rooftop born from a swimming pool project

On Lindwurmstraße, the Cocoon Sendlinger Tor hotel gained an extra 7th floor that was meant to house a swimming pool. In the end, the pool could not be built for structural reasons, and in June 2025 the floor became a bar open to all. It has kept the spirit of the public baths: a blue-tiled bar counter, red-and-white striped towels, palm trees, sun loungers, hanging swings and lifebuoys.

A glass-walled room and a terrace over the rooftops

You can take your pick between the room with its large sliding windows and the terrace outside. The view passes over the trees and rooftops of the neighbourhood to the city's church towers, including the neo-Gothic spire of St. Paul's Church. Late in the day, the setting sun floods the bar, which stays pleasant in grey weather thanks to its covered section.

Frozen cocktails and simple food

The house cocktail, the FreiSchwimmer, combines tequila, blue curaçao, coconut syrup and lime. The menu features around ten creations from €13 to €15, frozen cocktails, spritzes at €11 and Paulaner beers. On Wednesdays, order two martinis and the third is free; on Mondays at 8pm, an open-mic comedy night takes over, with free entry on reservation. The kitchen offers a few simple dishes, such as avocado toast or banana bread. A small room can be hired for meetings or private parties.

Practical information

The bar is open daily from 4pm to 1am, with no seasonal closure announced. No reservations for fewer than 10 people: just turn up and the team will find you a spot; larger groups should write to the bar. Card payment only. U-Bahn Sendlinger Tor (U1, U2, U3, U6) or Goetheplatz (U3, U6), a few minutes' walk away. No dress code is announced.
