Solar: sky bar and restaurant 70 metres above Kreuzberg

A glass lift up to the 17th floor

Solar occupies the top of the Excelsiorhaus, a large building on Stresemannstraße directly opposite Anhalter Bahnhof S-Bahn station. You enter through the courtyard, then a glass exterior lift climbs to a height of around 70 metres. The restaurant is on the 16th floor, the sky bar one level higher, on the 17th. There is no terrace: the view is enjoyed indoors, through large picture windows that open onto a 270° panorama over Berlin, taking in the Tiergarten, the Victory Column and Schloss Bellevue.

House cocktails and dishes to share

At the sky bar, the menu mixes house creations and great classics: most cocktails cost between €12 and €16, and many come in an alcohol-free version, at around €10 to €12. Spritzes are €10. Until 10pm, you can snack on bao buns, beef tartare or a currywurst with spicy fries. In the restaurant, dishes arrive in the centre of the table to be shared: ceviche, burrata, braised beef cheek, lobster or truffle rigatoni, with two sharing menus at €78 and €128 per person. DJs regularly accompany the evenings, between house, jazz and soul. A private area, the NOX Bar, hosts groups of 33 to 60 people.

Practical information

The sky bar is open Tuesday to Thursday from 6pm to 1am, Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 2am; the restaurant serves Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm to 11pm. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. You can come to the bar without a reservation, but it is best to book online for a table by the windows, and booking becomes essential at the restaurant on busy evenings.
