Sangha Bar: a Zen rooftop above the Cartoucherie
At the top of an Asian-inspired hotel
Opened in September 2024 in the Cartoucherie eco-district, the Sangha hotel made an unusual choice: placing its reception and bar on the 8th and top floor, reached by a panoramic lift. Interior architect Sébastien Caron designed a Japanese-inspired setting there, with wooden partitions, silk lamps, bespoke furniture and a monumental light sculpture beneath a very high ceiling. A large glass curtain wall floods the room with natural light.
A 150 m² terrace and its Zen garden
As soon as the first fine days arrive, the terrace takes over. Across 150 m², long banquettes and lounge areas surround a Zen garden of gravel and shrubs. The eye looks down on the Halles de la Cartoucherie and the buildings of the new neighbourhood, then sweeps on towards the rest of the city; on clear days, the Pyrenees mountain range is outlined on the horizon.
Japanese cocktails, tea time and brunch
The menu puts Asia in the spotlight: Japanese gins and whiskies, sakes, plum or yuzu liqueurs and around twenty cocktails and mocktails, with alcohol-free drinks given real prominence. Classics are priced from €9 to €12, house creations at around €14. To nibble on, there are gyoza, yakitori, mini spring rolls, sharing boards and mochi ice cream. Tuesday to Saturday, tea time is served from 3pm to 5pm; on Sundays, a €31 buffet brunch can be preceded by a yoga session. Low-key DJ sets, live music and creative workshops punctuate the season, and the space can be hired privately during the day.
Practical information
The bar is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 3pm to 11pm, and on Sundays from noon to 3pm for brunch, by reservation. Access is open to all up to the 8th floor of 8 place de la Charte-des-Libertés-Communales, just above the Halles. Tram T1, Cartoucherie stop. Phone: 05 82 95 08 28.
A peaceful spot to rise above it all, far from the bustle of the city centre.
