Henry Deane: face to face with the Harbour Bridge
A lounge perched above an old pub
Away from the bustle of The Rocks, the Hotel Palisade stands on a rise at Millers Point. On the ground floor, a local pub; in between, a handful of hotel rooms; and right at the top, on levels 4 and 5, Henry Deane bar, reached by lift. Leather banquettes, velvet armchairs and large picture windows frame a near-panoramic view: the western side of the Harbour Bridge, the harbour, the start of the Parramatta River and the Barangaroo precinct just below. In fine weather, the open-air balconies are the most sought-after spots.
House cocktails and sharing plates
The cocktail list, refreshed with the seasons, goes all out on originality, from a wasabi martini to mezcal lifted with an apple-mustard shrub, priced between A$22 and A$26. The kitchen offers sharing plates designed as much for pre-dinner drinks as for a proper meal. Local DJs set the mood in the evenings, and every Sunday from 3pm, the “Sunday Sips and Sounds” series brings together live music, drinks and views.
