Izumi: Nikkei cuisine on the roof of the Bergues
A terrace above the Rhône and the lake
The Four Seasons Hôtel des Bergues lines the Quai des Bergues, in the Saint-Gervais district, on the right bank, a few steps from the lake and facing the Old Town. Izumi occupies its top: a dining room on the sixth floor, with wood panelling and picture windows, then, just above, a roof terrace with around forty-five covers, lined with planters. From up there, the view takes in Lake Geneva and the Jet d'Eau, the roofs of the Old Town and Saint-Pierre Cathedral, and stretches all the way to Mont-Blanc when the sky is clear.
Japan and Peru on the plate
The menu follows the Nikkei tradition, born from the meeting of Japanese and Peruvian cuisines: raw fish, nigiri and maki, with plenty of room given to seasonal produce. At lunchtime, a business menu changes every two weeks. To accompany the meal, the restaurant offers a fine selection of sakes, wines and cocktails.
In summer, the terrace switches to all-day service, from lunch to dinner. You can then enjoy a Japanese-inspired afternoon tea, nibble something in the late afternoon or linger until sunset, when a DJ accompanies the evening.
Practical information
Izumi serves lunch and dinner every day and welcomes hotel guests and passing visitors alike. The terrace opens in fine weather and depends on the weather; the rest of the year, guests sit in the glazed dining room on the sixth floor. Booking is strongly recommended, especially for a table outdoors. The hotel is about ten minutes' walk from Cornavin station, very close to the Pont des Bergues and the Île Rousseau.
