Ático: a terrace bistro above the Gran Vía
The top of The Principal
Set in a fully restored historic building at the start of the Gran Vía, the five-star The Principal Madrid hotel houses its restaurant, Ático, on the sixth floor: an intimate dining room with rust-coloured curtains and terraces laid out among white balustrades, cypress trees and parasols.
From these terraces, you look out over the rooftops of the centre and the spires of the historic buildings lining the Gran Vía and calle de Alcalá, with a particularly beautiful view as the sun goes down over the city.
Seasonal cuisine and cocktails
Ático describes itself as an urban bistro: seasonal dishes with clean flavours, without artifice, served indoors or outside. The terrace also lends itself to just a drink: the venue highlights its cocktails, a musical atmosphere and one of the most iconic views in the capital. A wine list accompanies the meal, and the restaurant offers gift experiences.
Practical information
The restaurant is open to non-hotel guests; bookings can be made online via The Principal's website or by phone, and are recommended if you want a table on the terrace. The hotel is at calle del Marqués de Valdeiglesias 1, at the junction of the Gran Vía and calle de Alcalá; Banco de España and Sevilla metro stations (line 2) are a few minutes' walk away. Use of the terraces depends on the season and the weather, so it is best to mention it when booking.
