A rooftop above the Hauptwache
The GALERIA department store occupies an entire block of the Zeil, Frankfurt's main shopping street, on the corner of Hauptwache square. An express lift goes straight up to its 7th floor, where THE VIEW, also known as the GALERIA Skylounge, combines a large indoor room and a 120-seat terrace, partly sheltered under big white sails. Behind the glass balustrade, the view takes in the spire of the Katharinenkirche, the rooftops of the centre and, just opposite, the skyscrapers of the banking district, which blaze up at the end of the day.
From breakfast to aperitif
It is above all a daytime restaurant, partly self-service: breakfast, brunch, lunch or a coffee break between shops. The menu ranges from regional and seasonal dishes to international classics, including pizzas and pasta, with vegetarian options. As for drinks, Aperol Spritz, wines, beers, coffees and a few cocktails remain affordable, at around €9 to €10 a cocktail. The venue, which can hold several hundred people, lends itself to weddings and company parties, and hosts “sundowner” evenings during the department store's late-night openings.
Practical information
Open Monday to Saturday during the department store's opening hours, usually from 9.30am to 8pm; closed on Sundays. The terrace is at its best in the good season. Casual dress. Entrance through GALERIA, Zeil 116-126, then express lift to the 7th floor. S-Bahn and U-Bahn Hauptwache, right in front of the store.
