A hotel tower north of the centre
The 25hours Hotel Das Tour stands on Louis-Pasteur-Platz, in the heart of the Quartier Central, a new district of Pempelfort about twenty minutes' walk from the central station. Its décor sets German engineering in dialogue with the French spirit, and it is France that wins out right at the top: the restaurant occupies the 16th floor, the bar the 17th, the last in the tower.
A glazed bar with a terrace
On the 17th floor, tall picture windows surround the room: blue velvet stools, a fireplace, a wooden counter and a model aeroplane in Air France colours hanging beneath the ceiling. A small terrace lined with glass balustrades lets you get some fresh air above the roofs; it also welcomes smokers. The view takes in the buildings of the centre, the Rhine and, in the distance, the silhouette of the Rheinturm. Sunset is the most sought-after moment.
Highballs and brasserie cuisine
The bar serves only French spirits: the classics, from the negroni to the old fashioned, are reinvented here, and the highballs, served in frosted glasses with big ice cubes, are what the house is known for. Cocktails cost €14 to €15, alcohol-free creations €10. In the evening, a short menu goes with the drinks: oysters, beef tartare, a melted-cheese sandwich, chips with truffle mayonnaise. One floor down, the restaurant serves French brasserie cuisine, including bouillabaisse and Burgundy snails, with the same panoramic view.
Practical information
Bar open every day from 5pm, until 1am Monday to Thursday, 2am on Friday and Saturday and midnight on Sunday. No reservations at the bar: first come, first served. The restaurant serves lunch Monday to Friday (12pm to 2.30pm) and dinner Monday to Saturday (6pm to 10pm), with reservations by telephone. Access via the lifts in the hotel lobby. The Pempelforter Straße and Schillerplatz U-Bahn stations, as well as Düsseldorf-Wehrhahn S-Bahn station, are a few minutes' walk away.
