Le Toit-terrasse de la Friche: 8,000 m² of partying above Marseille
A former factory crowned by an esplanade
In the 3rd arrondissement, the Friche la Belle de Mai has turned a former tobacco factory into a cultural quarter. Its roof, designed by ARM architecture and open since 2013, forms an 8,000 m² esplanade criss-crossed by ramps and walkways, billed as the largest roof terrace in the city.
The whole city in panorama
From this open platform, the eye sweeps over the neighbourhood's buildings to the CMA CGM tower, the sea and the hills, with Notre-Dame de la Garde on its hilltop. Sunset is the best time to be here.
ON AIR nights, a fixture every summer
The roof is not a year-round bar: it comes alive during the ON AIR season, co-produced by the Friche and the restaurant Les grandes Tables. For more than ten years, every summer on Friday and Saturday evenings, collectives and artists have been lining up concerts, DJ sets and performances there, from hip-hop to techno by way of Mediterranean music. Bars and food stalls are set up on site, cups come with a deposit and picnics are allowed, whether with family or friends.
In spring, the electronic music festival Le Bon Air also takes up residence there for a weekend.
Practical information
The venue is seasonal and returns every year: the 2026 season ran from 5 June to 5 September, from 7.30pm to 11.30pm. Entry costs €6, with a free (compulsory) ticket for 4- to 18-year-olds and recipients of certain social benefits. For the rest of the year, the roof is closed; only the Panorama lookout, on the exhibition route, offers a glimpse of the view. Entrance at 41 rue Jobin, buses 49 and 56 to the Belle de Mai La Friche stop.
One to tick off for dancing under the summer sky, with Marseille as a backdrop.
