Rooftop Hermès: a secret roof above the Vieux-Port
A hidden terrace atop a small hotel
On the corner of rue Bonneterie and rue Coutellerie, a few steps from the quays, the Hôtel Hermès is a two-star hotel with around thirty rooms. Nothing on the street hints that its roof is home to a bar: you have to walk past reception and go up to the top level to discover the terrace. The venue is not reserved for hotel guests, which makes it an insider's address for an aperitif right in the city centre.
The port and the Bonne Mère opposite
From the roof, the view plunges down onto the pontoons and masts of the Vieux-Port, with the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica perched on its hill directly opposite and Fort Saint-Nicolas to the right. Sunset is the most sought-after moment, before the basilica lights up at nightfall. The décor is kept simple: artificial grass, wooden tables and benches, yellow chairs, lanterns and a few planters.
Cocktails and sharing boards
The bar serves cocktails, wines, rosés, champagne and beers, with a few tapas and sharing boards to go with your drink.
Practical information
The rooftop is seasonal: it reopens every spring and closes in autumn. From April to September, it welcomes guests Tuesday to Saturday, from 6pm to 11pm; it is closed on Sundays and Mondays, as well as for the rest of the year. With only forty or so seats and no advertised booking, it is best to arrive as soon as it opens to enjoy the sunset. Vieux-Port metro station (line 1) and the Hôtel de Ville public car park are a few minutes' walk away.
Small, discreet and ideally located, the Hôtel Hermès rooftop offers one of the most direct views of the Vieux-Port.
