La Terrasse du Mucem: Alexandre Mazzia's street food on the roof of the J4
A roof terrace open to all
At the top of the Mucem's J4 building, the large wooden-decked roof terrace is home to La Terrasse, the street-food counter dreamed up by three-star chef Alexandre Mazzia. Opened in summer 2025, it offers around 150 seats, some sheltered beneath the concrete lattice designed by Rudy Ricciotti, others in full sun. As the museum's outdoor spaces are free to access, there is no need to buy an exhibition ticket: a lift from the main entrance goes straight up to the third floor.
Between Fort Saint-Jean and the Mediterranean
From the tables, the view takes in the sea, the tower of Fort Saint-Jean, the entrance to the Vieux-Port and the nearby La Major cathedral. The play of shadows cast by the concrete lace across the deck is part of the show, especially late in the day.
A short, low-priced menu
The menu carries on the spirit of the Michel par AM food truck: Croq'Mazz, Carimagnol'AM, a crispy cassava bite filled with vegetable stew, a seasonal tartlet and other sweet treats, with prices announced at €4 to €12 at the opening. On the drinks side, a selection of cold beverages accompanies your break at any time of the afternoon, with continuous service.
On the same level, Bouillant, another of the chef's restaurants, takes over with table service at lunch and, on Fridays and Saturdays, at dinner.
Practical information
La Terrasse operates in the warmer months: in 2026, it is open from 4 April to 2 November, weather permitting, then closes for the winter. It generally welcomes guests from noon to 6pm, every day except Tuesday, when the museum is closed. Access is via the Mucem's main entrance, on the J4 esplanade, around ten minutes' walk from the Vieux-Port and Joliette metro stations; buses 49, 60 and 82 stop at Mucem Saint-Jean, and the Vieux-Port – Fort Saint-Jean car park is nearby.
For a tasty, budget-friendly break with the sea as a backdrop, it is one of the most accessible rooftops in Marseille.
