Seabird: seafood and a terrace on the 14th floor
A Mediterranean stopover above Southwark
Seabird crowns The Hoxton, Southwark, a hotel on Blackfriars Road a few minutes from the Thames. On the 14th floor, a glass-walled dining room with rattan armchairs, marble tables and large plants opens onto an open-air, palm-lined terrace with a chequerboard floor. The panorama takes in the Thames, the dome of St Paul's, the Shard and, to the west, the Houses of Parliament.
Oysters, seafood platters and cocktails
The kitchen draws on the coastal traditions of Spain and Portugal: oysters from a range of origins, seafood platters, small plates to share and dishes that change depending on what comes in. An oyster “happy hour” runs daily from 3pm to 6pm. At the bar, signature cocktails sit alongside long drinks at £16–18. The restaurant also hosts music events, such as a series of jazz, soul and blues Sundays with Ronnie Scott's, and in summer DJs liven up the terrace at weekends.
Practical information
Seabird is closed on Mondays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the kitchen runs from 12pm to 9.30pm and the bar until 10.30pm; from Thursday to Saturday, the kitchen closes at 10.30pm and the bar at 11.30pm. On Sundays, the venue only opens for the Ronnie Scott's evenings. Reservations are for meals (card details required); for just a drink, they are only possible from 9.30pm, and a table on the terrace can never be guaranteed. Southwark Underground station (Jubilee line) is a few minutes' walk away, or Blackfriars (District and Circle lines) on the other side of the bridge.
