Terrasse Carla: a Franco-Vietnamese bistro on a Chinatown rooftop
On the 6th floor, between Chinatown and Old Montreal
Opened in 2022, Terrasse Carla occupies the roof of the Hampton Inn by Hilton, on Boulevard Saint-Laurent, on the edge of Chinatown and Old Montreal. Across some 7,000 square feet, partly covered, it offers around 250 seats amid lush greenery, lawn, high tables and stools. The decor evokes the French colonial houses of Vietnam, and the view stretches towards Old Montreal and the downtown towers, superb at sunset.
French bistro, Vietnamese accents
The cooking marries French bistro fare and Vietnamese flavours: poutine with pho gravy, banh mi with Matane shrimp, mussels in coconut milk. At the bar, signature cocktails such as the Mango Spritz or the Carla Colada are $18, house margaritas and classics $18 or $19, and sangrias come by the glass or by the pitcher. Private-import wines and local beers complete the menu. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from June to August.
Mercredi Vibras nights and happy hour
Every Wednesday of the season, the "Mercredi Vibras" nights liven up the terrace from 5pm to 10pm with Afro, Latin and world music selections. On Thursdays, happy hour offers two-for-one drinks. The terrace can be booked in part, for 25 to 100 people, or in full for corporate events.

Terrasse Carla is seasonal and closes in winter: it usually opens from spring until the end of September. Opening hours vary according to announcements; check the website before you go. Reservations are made online, with part of the terrace kept open for walk-in guests. Smart casual dress suggested. Expect to pay $18 to $23 for a cocktail, plus taxes and tip.
