Harper Rooftop Bar: a beach-club vibe on Pitt Street
A vast terrace atop the Kimpton Margot
The Kimpton Margot hotel occupies a building on Pitt Street, in the southern part of the CBD, between Town Hall and Hyde Park. On the 7th floor, Harper has set up one of the largest open-air bars in the city, with room for around 180 people. The decor borrows from beach clubs: striped banquettes, turquoise tiles around the hotel pool (reserved for hotel guests), white pergolas, tropical plants and touches of yellow. All around, office and residential towers form a very urban landscape that lights up as night falls.
Fruity cocktails and a Mediterranean menu
Signature cocktails, at around A$25 to A$26, lean on fruit and flowers: passionfruit, lychee, rose, raspberry, plus a few slushies in summer. The menu, designed by chef Luke Mangan, features Mediterranean-inspired sharing plates: Sydney oysters, kingfish tostadas, Cajun prawns, guacamole or a burger. From Wednesday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm, “Golden Hour” brings deals on drinks and food; DJs play on the terrace from Thursday to Sunday, and on Sundays spritzes drop to A$18. Dogs are welcome. The terrace can be booked for groups of 20 to 100 people.
Practical information
Open Wednesday to Friday from 4pm to 11pm, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 11pm; closed Monday and Tuesday. Online booking is recommended at weekends. The bar is entirely open-air: in wet weather, it's best to check that it's open before heading up.
