The East Village Hotel, formerly known as Darlo Village, is a corner pub at the intersection of Palmer Street and Liverpool Street, in the residential streets of Darlinghurst. On the ground floor there's a public bar; on the 2nd floor, a lounge available for private hire; and right at the top, up a few flights of stairs, a rooftop terrace full of flowers. From the roof, the view runs unobstructed to the towers of the CBD and Sydney Tower, and is especially beautiful at sunset, when the city lights up. A retractable roof, fans and heaters mean it can be enjoyed all year round.
Cocktails, brunch and themed nights
Classic cocktails cost between A$20 and A$22, an Aperol Spritz A$18, and happy hour from 4pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday, brings down the price of beer and house wine. The kitchen serves pub classics and small sharing plates. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the rooftop brunch (A$75) pairs a sharing menu with bottomless prosecco, wine and beer, with an A$24 supplement for cocktails. The weekly programme includes trivia, drawing, comedy on Sundays and a Melbourne Cup party. The rooftop also hosts events for up to 80 people.

Open Monday to Saturday from 11am to midnight, Sunday from 11am to 10pm; kitchen until 9pm (9.30pm on Friday and Saturday). Online booking is recommended for brunch. 10% surcharge on Sundays and 15% on public holidays. Getting there: Museum or Kings Cross stations, around ten minutes' walk away.
