On the 7th floor of Westfield Sydney, above the pedestrian Pitt Street Mall, Babylon spreads across several spaces: a restaurant, function rooms for private hire and, above all, a rooftop bar whose decor of hanging plants recalls the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Open-air terraces, umbrellas and covered areas follow one after another, ringed by the office towers of the city centre. It's a handy spot after a day of shopping or for after-work drinks, within walking distance of anywhere in the CBD.
Mezze, mangal and Levantine-accented cocktails
The food, Levantine-inspired and made with Australian produce, is designed for sharing: mezze, breads, and dishes cooked on a large charcoal mangal and on the rotisserie. At the bar, classic cocktails are A$25 and house creations between A$26.50 and A$27.50. Monday to Friday, from 4pm to 6pm, the rooftop happy hour offers house pints and wines at A$11 and spritzes at A$16. On Saturdays, a bottomless brunch (A$89) comes with DJs, who also play in the evenings from Wednesday to Saturday. Halloween, the Melbourne Cup and Christmas bring special events; the spaces host functions for 20 to 400 people.
