La Casa de las Sirenas: a colonial terrace facing the cathedral
An old mansion behind the cathedral
República de Guatemala street runs along the back of the Catedral Metropolitana between the Zócalo and the Templo Mayor. At number 32, a colonial house with stone and brick walls is home to the restaurant. Right at the top, the terrace opens out behind an ochre parapet decorated with crosses and stone fountains: wooden tables, woven armchairs, old tiled floors and large burgundy parasols. The dome and bell towers of the cathedral fill the whole foreground, while the Palacio Nacional and the bustle of the Zócalo appear to the side.
Mexican cuisine and agave spirits
The kitchen reinvents the country's classics: confit duck carnitas in the Michoacán style, rabbit barbacoa, cochinita pibil panuchos, braised octopus, moles and homemade desserts. At the bar, the list highlights mezcals and tequilas, served neat or in cocktails. The house also has a space devoted to agave spirits, open from late morning, and a lounge for private events. At midday, the parasols provide shade from the sun; on Sundays, service ends in the early evening.
