Terraza Catedral: a rooftop at the foot of the bell towers

Above the Mundo Joven hostel

República de Guatemala street runs along the back of the Catedral Metropolitana, a stone's throw from the Zócalo and the Templo Mayor. At number 4, you cross the reception of the Mundo Joven Catedral hostel and go up to the roof. The terrace stretches out between high tables, wooden benches, parasols and potted cacti, with a sheltered area by the bar. The dome and towers of the cathedral rise very close by; at sunset, the Torre Latinoamericana stands out above the rooftops of the historic centre.

Cocktails, beers and Mexican food

The drinks list features signature and classic cocktails, mezcals, tequilas, draught beers and craft beers. On the food side, you share Mexican antojitos, house dishes such as the molcajete of grilled meats, chicken wings or nachos, with a few vegetarian options. The crowd mixes local residents and travellers staying at the hostel.

DJs and nights out

The venue has earned a place on the city's electronic music scene: resident and guest DJs take turns according to a monthly calendar. On house music nights, at the end of the week, there is an entrance fee (around 100 pesos); the rest of the time, entry is free. The terrace can also be booked privately for events.

Open Monday to Thursday from 1pm to 11pm, Friday to Sunday from 2pm to midnight. Bookings by email or on +52 55 5518 1726, recommended for a table at the edge. Large bags stay downstairs. Zócalo/Tenochtitlan or Allende metro station (line 2).
