A roof terrace near the central station
The SAVOY hotel stands on Turiner Straße, in the north of the old town, about ten minutes' walk from the central station and the Eigelstein district. Its roof is home to the Sky Lounge, a 350 m² terrace open to hotel guests and passing visitors alike, provided they have booked.
The décor does not go unnoticed: an immense mural with palm-tree motifs, a bar with a red front, woven chairs, banquettes dressed with tropical cushions and shade sails stretched over the tables. But all eyes end up turning to the cathedral, very close by, rising above the glass roofs of the station, with the rest of the city in the background.
Tartes flambées and drinks in the sun
The menu stays simple and summery. Several tartes flambées are offered, from the classic Alsatian to versions with serrano ham and rocket, with chorizo, Mediterranean or vegan. You can also order a Caesar salad, a beef carpaccio, hummus or a board of charcuterie and cheeses, with wines by the glass, soft drinks and, at weekends, proper bar service until late. When the weather does not allow you to go up, the DIVAS bar, inside the hotel, takes over.
Practical information
The Sky Lounge opens only in the warmer months, in settled weather and from 20 °C; it closes in autumn and winter. On opening days, the bistro menu is served every day from 1.30pm to 10.45pm, and the bar stays open until 1am on Friday and Saturday. Booking is compulsory, including for people who are not staying at the hotel; if in doubt about the weather, it is best to call reception. The central station is about ten minutes' walk away, or take U-Bahn 16 and 18 to Breslauer Platz.
