The Maritim Hotel Köln stands on the Heumarkt, a stone's throw from the Deutzer Brücke and the Rhine quays, at the gates of the old town. Its Bellevue restaurant occupies the 5th floor and, in fine weather, opens onto a vast terrace laid out on the roof, with parasols, clothed tables and planters. You can come without staying at the hotel.
The view is the great attraction of the place: above the gabled houses of the Altstadt rise the cathedral's spires and the tower of Groß St. Martin, while on the river side the eye travels to the Rhine, the Hohenzollernbrücke and the Deutz bank.
Sunday brunch and barbecue
On Sundays, the Skyline Brunch brings together a seasonal buffet and unlimited drinks, with coffee, sparkling wine, beer and house wine included: expect to pay €79, more on public holidays and during Advent; places go fast. On Thursday evenings, the terrace hosts a barbecue: open-air grills from May to September, a winter version before Christmas with mulled wine, string lights and a small chalet, followed by a buffet served in the dining room.

Open every day from 11am to 11pm, except on evenings reserved for private events, announced on the hotel's website. Booking is advised by phone or online, and essential for the brunch. The terrace depends on the weather and fills up quickly on barbecue evenings. Heumarkt station (lines 1, 7 and 9) is at the foot of the hotel; the cathedral and the central station are about ten minutes' walk away.
