Soko Rooftop: a Peruvian and Japanese jungle on the 14th floor

At the top of Jubilee Place

In the heart of Fortitude Valley, Soko occupies the 14th floor of the Jubilee Place building. It is reached by a dedicated lift on the side of the building, on Symes Street: just follow the Soko logo. The decor draws on the Amazon, with deep green tiles, golden pendant lights and tropical greenery inside, then a vast open-air terrace lined with planters, trees and umbrellas. The view takes in the towers of the CBD and, at sunset, the hills on the horizon. The venue can host up to 500 people.

Ceviches, sushi and pisco sours

The kitchen blends Peruvian and Japanese techniques: ceviches, sushi and sashimi, yakitori skewers, bao and grilled meats, with sharing menus and a business lunch deal on weekdays. The wine and sake list has been designed to match these flavours. At the bar, the pisco sour comes in more than forty versions, from A$25 to A$29, and the signature cocktails, often spiked with sake and yuzu, cost A$24 to A$29. In the evening, DJs and entertainment take over the terrace.

Practical information

Open daily from noon, until mid-afternoon on Mondays and Tuesdays and until late from Wednesday to Sunday; it is best to check before you go. Online bookings for up to 20 people, walk-ins accepted subject to availability. Over-18s only. Smart casual dress: no thongs, shorts, caps or singlets. Card payments only. Wheelchair accessible; most of the outdoor tables are shaded by large umbrellas. Fortitude Valley station is a few minutes' walk away.
