Valley Hops Brewing: a brewery on the roof of Cloudland

Brewing tanks above Ann Street

At 641 Ann Street, the Cloudland building houses several bars and restaurants; right at the top, Valley Hops has set up its brewery and bar on the roof. The fermentation tanks gleam behind the glass walls, just a few metres from the tables. The decor is lush: metal arches covered in plants, planters, trees and a bar adorned with a stained-glass panel in the house colours. You can choose between a vast covered area and open-air tables under umbrellas, at high tables, on banquettes or on cushions, with views of the towers of central Brisbane and the buzz of the Valley.

House beers, pizzas and grills

The core range runs from lager to stout by way of a tropical XPA and a hazy IPA, all brewed on site. For those who prefer something else, there is a wine and cocktail list, at around A$24. In the kitchen, wood-fired pizzas, charcoal-grilled dishes and sharing plates. You order at the table using a table marker or directly at the bar. Several regular events punctuate the week: steak night, Italian night, DJs and happy hour in the late afternoon.

Practical information

Open from Wednesday to Sunday, from late morning until late; food served all day at weekends, with an afternoon break on weekdays. Walk-ins always welcome; online bookings for up to 20 people, and beyond that via the contact form. On the ground floor, the Beer Garden run by the same team has its own opening hours. Fortitude Valley station is a few minutes' walk away, a stone's throw from the Brunswick Street Mall.
