Iris Rooftop: a touch of Spain above Fortitude Valley
On the roof of the former Hotel X
At 458 Brunswick Street, between the bars of Fortitude Valley and the boutiques of James Street, the hotel formerly known as Hotel X has taken the name The Alva Hotel Brisbane. Its roof is home to Iris, a bar and restaurant open to everyone, reached by lift. The decor mixes wisteria, olive trees, sheer drapes and banquettes, beneath a glass roof that opens wide onto the city. The view sweeps 360 degrees over the rooftops of the Valley and the skyscrapers of the CBD. Next to it lies the hotel's fifteen-metre pool, lined with private cabanas.
Tapas, paella and cocktails
The menu draws on Spanish cuisine: classic tapas such as patatas bravas or fried zucchini flowers, Iberian charcuterie, raw fish and seafood, paella, and banquet menus for groups. The signature cocktails are also inspired by Spain, alongside sangria, a fine selection of tequilas and mezcals and frozen cocktails. From Friday to Sunday, local artists play live on the roof, from long afternoons into the evening; the venue also hosts birthdays, receptions and corporate events.
