Cicada Blu: a bar a hundred metres above the river
On the Sky Deck at Queen's Wharf
The Queen's Wharf precinct has transformed the north bank of the Brisbane River, at the southern tip of the CBD. At the top of The Star Brisbane complex, the Sky Deck unfurls a promenade of around 250 metres suspended above the city, open to the public free of charge. On level 23, Cicada Blu runs a bar entirely open to the outdoors, some 100 metres above the river. Around the circular bar, high tables and potted pandanus let the view sweep towards the river, the towers of the centre and the hills on the horizon.
Botanical elixirs and storm lights
The menu focuses on exotic cocktails and botanical infusions, designed for pre-dinner drinks as well as a nightcap after dinner, with a few snacks to go with them. The real show happens at dusk: above the bar, a large light installation inspired by Brisbane's clouds and summer storms lights up and pulses to the rhythm of the music once night falls. Musical entertainment punctuates the evenings.
Practical information
Opening hours have varied since the opening and the menu is not published online: it is best to check with The Star Brisbane before you go, especially on weekdays. The Sky Deck, free to enter, is at the top of The Star Brisbane complex, at 33 William Street. As the bar is entirely open-air, a clear, mild evening is ideal; late afternoons offer the finest sunsets over the river.
