La Vie: a Riviera on the Washington Channel

La Vie is reached by elevator from District Square. The main dining room, with its expansive windows, looks out over the Washington Channel; it connects to a room with spectacular chandeliers and a fireplace, a rose-lined passageway overlooked by the building's pool, and a garden terrace whose decor changes with the seasons. Higher still, the Penthouse opens onto open-air porticoes from which the eye takes in The Wharf, the river and the city's monuments.
Mediterranean cuisine and Riviera cocktails
The cooking draws on the coasts of southern Europe and the Levant: fresh herbs, citrus, fish and seafood, seasonal vegetables and certified halal meats, on plates designed for sharing. The bar serves Lillet spritzes ($16 to $18), seasonal cocktails at $18 to $22 — hibiscus margarita, house carajillo, tiramisu-style espresso martini — and a short alcohol-free list. Happy hour is offered on weekdays in the early evening and in the afternoon on weekends.
The Penthouse hosts brunch on Saturday and Sunday; in certain seasons, heated igloos are set up there and can be reserved for an intimate dinner or brunch. The various rooms can be booked privately for weddings, receptions and corporate events.
Practical information
Dinner Sunday through Thursday from 5pm to 10pm, Friday and Saturday until 11pm; brunch Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially in the evening and on weekends; walk-ins are seated as space allows. Evening service in the Penthouse is offered on a case-by-case basis. “Smart casual” to dressy attire is recommended; children are welcome; the dining rooms are wheelchair accessible by elevator. L'Enfant Plaza station (Orange, Blue, Silver, Green and Yellow lines) is about 600 meters away, and Waterfront station (Green Line) is 800 meters away.
