SUSHISAMBA: Japan, Brazil and Peru facing the castle
On the 10th floor of the W Edinburgh
SUSHISAMBA occupies the 10th floor of the W Edinburgh, the hotel that crowns the St James Quarter, east of the New Town. The restaurant is open to everyone, whether or not you are staying at the hotel. The large windows face Edinburgh Castle, the spires of the Old Town and, on the other side, Calton Hill and Arthur's Seat; an outdoor terrace, furnished with tables and armchairs, extends the dining room above the rooftops. In the centre, the circular bar is topped by a sculpted tree with red foliage, the house signature, above a floor patterned with black and white waves.
Sushi, robata and cocktails
The menu is shared in the manner of small plates: Japanese tempura and sushi, Brazilian churrasco and moqueca, Peruvian anticuchos and ceviches, with an open kitchen and a robata grill. At the bar, signature cocktails cost £14 to £19, built around pisco, cachaça, sake and tequila, with alcohol-free versions at £9. In the afternoon, a champagne afternoon tea is enjoyed facing the panorama; on weekdays, a two-course lunch menu is available from Monday to Thursday, and tasting menus let you discover the great house classics.
