Lochrin Rooftop Bar: cocktails and castle views in Fountainbridge

At the top of the Moxy

The Fountainbridge neighbourhood stretches south-west of the centre, around the start of the Union Canal, a stone's throw from Lothian Road and Haymarket. The Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge hotel has installed the Lochrin Rooftop Bar on its sixth and top floor. The interior cultivates the spirit of an English-style club: dark green walls and floral wallpaper, chesterfield sofas, velvet armchairs, fringed lamps and candles. Outside, the terrace, lit with string lights, looks towards Edinburgh Castle, which stands out on its rock above the rooftops.

Cocktails, gins and small plates

The menu highlights creative cocktails, gins from small distilleries and a selection of Scottish whiskies, alongside craft beers, wines and champagnes. To go with the drinks, there are small sharing plates and charcuterie or cheese boards, in a seasonal style.

Practical information

Open daily from late afternoon, and from the afternoon on Fridays and Saturdays; closing time varies, so it is best to check before you come. Online booking recommended at weekends and at sunset. The bar is open to all, hotel guests or not. The Moxy is on Freer Gait, close to Haymarket and the West End: Haymarket station, served by the tram, and Lothian Road can be reached on foot.
