Beverly: a California-inspired rooftop on the 24th floor, in South Yarra

Beverly is not in the CBD but in South Yarra, the Chapel Street shopping district, south-east of the centre. Perched on the 24th floor of Goldfields House, it towers over low-rise surroundings, and the view opens out through about 270 degrees: on one side the whole line of the city centre's skyscrapers, on the other Port Phillip Bay and, on a clear day, the Dandenong Ranges on the horizon. This distance makes it possible to take in the entire silhouette of the city at a single glance, and the spectacle peaks at sunset.

A glass roof and sunny cooking

Indoor and outdoor lounges, a long bar and intimate tables share a space in pearly, earthy tones, topped by a retractable glass roof that opens in fine weather and closes when the weather turns: it can therefore be enjoyed all year round. The cooking draws its inspiration from Southern California and works with local produce, in plates to share. From Tuesday to Friday, a lunch of one, two or three plates changes every two weeks; groups book a chef's menu at A$120 per person. At the bar, signature cocktails cost A$27, classics A$26 and spritzes A$25.

Golden Hour and Friday DJs

On weekdays, from 4pm to 6pm, the Golden Hour pairs a bite and a drink for A$30, with beers, wines by the glass and spirits at A$10. On Fridays, DJs take turns from 4pm to 7pm, and special nights punctuate the calendar.

Practical information

Open on Mondays from 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday from noon, until late. Reservations up to 60 days in advance; walk-ins welcomed depending on space. Smart casual dress; after 4pm, minors must be accompanied by a parent. 10% surcharge on Sundays and 15% on public holidays. Entrance through Goldfields House, on the Daly Street side; South Yarra station is a six-minute walk away; car parks nearby.
